Visa Mortgage Guide

What ILR does to your mortgage — lender by lender

Gaining ILR or settled status doesn't just remove a hurdle at some lenders — at others it unlocks a meaningfully higher LTV, and therefore a smaller deposit. See the jump at each of the 17 lenders we track, based on criteria verified 2026-07-13.

This is an information tool, not advice: it doesn't assess when you'll qualify for ILR or guarantee any lender's decision.

Worked example: the biggest jump we track is at NatWest

NatWest's published non-ILR LTV vs its standard-limits LTV, on a £300,000 purchase.

NatWest caps foreign nationals without ILR at 75% LTV. Once you have ILR or settled status, that rises to 95% LTV — a 20-point jump. On a £300,000 purchase that's roughly £60,000 less deposit needed.

7 of the 17 lenders we track show a clear LTV jump like this once ILR is granted — see the full table below.

Indicative only, based on lender criteria verified 2026-07-13. LTV ceilings depend on product, loan size and affordability as well as immigration status. "Excluded" means our data for that lender looks internally inconsistent — we'd rather show nothing than a wrong number. Information, not advice.
