Adviser's view

Read this one carefully, because Aldermore is the panel's clearest example of a lender that's flexible on income but strict on status. Its current criteria require non-EU/EEA nationals to hold indefinite leave to remain or equivalent settled status — a Skilled Worker or other time-limited work visa on its own is not accepted, and its guide states plainly that work eVisas don't count as proof of residency. EU and EEA citizens get an easier ride: pre-settled status is acceptable. Everyone needs two years' UK residency, and foreign-currency income isn't accepted at all.

So who is Aldermore actually for? Foreign nationals who have already secured ILR or settled status and whose income is the complicated part — self-employed, portfolio earners, imperfect credit picked up along the way. For that applicant, Aldermore's manual underwriting is genuinely valuable and its appetite is real.

If you're still on a time-limited visa, skip Aldermore for now and look at the lenders in our tables with explicit visa routes — then revisit once your status is settled. As always, criteria move: confirm the current position before applying.
